The Florida Clean Water Pledge

If elected to represent the citizens of Florida, I pledge to make top priority of the following policies to protect Florida’s environment and economy:

  1. Preserve Lands - Honor and appropriate The Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative, also known as Amendment 1.
  2. Restore the Flow - Release the majority of Lake Okeechobee discharge south to restore a more natural, historical flow of water into the Everglades.
  3. Fund Governance - Provide adequate funding of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as well as the five Water Management Districts. Reinstate the Florida Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) Task Force.
  4. Enforce Protection - Strengthen and enforce water and air quality monitoring for all known pollutants, contaminants and excess nutrients.
  5. Control Pollutants - Update and enforce state & local stormwater runoff rules and regulations. Preserve critical watershed areas by expanding efforts to identify them and enforce policies to actively protect and restore them. Implement ordinances for riparian buffer zones to filter runoff using native vegetation.
  6. Inform the Public - Publish and post adequate announcements and signage during harmful algae blooms with the purpose of informing the public of health risks. Provide a helpline for citizens to report health issues as well as polluters.

Within the power and jurisdiction of my elected office, I promise to pursue and advocate for measures to implement the above goals swiftly, with full transparency and accountability to the voters of Florida.
