The Citizen’s Clean Water Pledge

As a resident of Florida, I pledge to make a priority of the following goals to protect our  environment and economy:

1. I will seek to replace soaps, detergents, cleaners and other chemicals, used within my home, with environmentally friendly products.
2. I will reduce my use of single-use plastic bags, in favor of totes and reusable bags.
3. I will increase efforts to recycle and seek products using sustainable, environmentally conscious packaging.
4. I will ensure responsible disposal of oils, solvents, paints and other potentially environmentally hazardous chemicals.
5. I will strive to use, or have my neighborhood use, environmentally friendly “natural” and “organic” lawn care fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.
6. I will plant more native trees, shrubs and vegetation. I will consider a xeriscape design to reduce the need for irrigation.
7. I will support policies, candidates and elected officials who will enforce environmental protection.
8. I will hold officials accountable to the promises made for environmental conservation, protection and the restoration of public lands and coastlines.

Within the limitations of my home and property, I pledge to implement the above goals to protect our waters and our shared environment of Florida.
